Groucho said that Chaplin had told him, “‘Stay warm,’ I had no idea what the hell he was talking about. Then I realized he meant that when I got older I’d get colder.” This sounds like a joke, right? In Raised Eyebrows, written by Groucho’s secretary for the latter part of his life, Steve Stoliar, said that when Groucho told him this, Groucho reached out and grabbed his arm, and Steve realized that he knew what Charlie meant; Groucho’s hand was ice cold.
